The West Michigan Whitecaps just keep on rolling, coming from behind for a 5-2 win over the Great Lakes Loons Tuesday night to win their seventh straight game.
Will Allen got the ‘Caps on the board early with a first inning RBI. Jordan Smith pitched well through six-plus innings before giving up two runs in the seventh, when the Loons gained a 2-1 advantage.
Jon Maciel took over in relief for Smith on the mound and would get the victory after Allen singled home two runs in the eighth, giving the ‘Caps the lead again. Rashad Brown and David Gonzalez added insurance sacrifice flies in the top of the ninth to stretch the lead to 5-2.
Adenson Verastegui struck out the side in the final inning for his first save of the season. He’s now pitched 14.1 innings for West Michigan and has recorded 14 strikeouts.
The winning streak is the longest since July 2014 and the team finished the month with a recored of 18-9, second-best in team history.
Matt Hall will start for West Michigan Wednesday at 7:05p.m.
