Andrew Loomis was promoted to chief of staff for Stan Van Gundy and the Detroit Pistons.
Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy announced the decision this week, also giving promotions to Pat Garrity and Bob Beyer, adding Otis Smith as assistant coach, transitioning Brendan Malone to scout and Quentin Richardson will leave the staff.
Van Gundy, spoke on the moves,
“I’m proud to announce the restructuring of our basketball staff knowing that we have great people expanding their roles while maintaining continuity within our department. Pat, Andrew and Bob are well deserving of new responsibilities and we welcome Otis to Detroit on a full-time basis. Brendan is moving away from the bench and returning to his New York roots, but will continue to provide great basketball counsel and insight that has made him a great basketball mind for decades. We thank Quentin for his hard work over the last two seasons and respect his desire to spend more time with his family in Orlando.”
Loomis has spent the last two seasons as executive director of the Pistons, managing the basketball operations of the Grand Rapids Drive, the Pistons’ NBADL affiliate. Prior to his time with the Pistons, he spent three-plus seasons with the Golden State Warriors organization in player development and also was the assistant GM of their NBADL team, the Santa Cruz Warriors. That all comes after eight years with the New Orleans Hornets in various roles.
