AQ Saints add Marek Laucky (TC-St. Francis) to Class of ’21

The Aquinas Saints made the trip to the bay area and announced the signing of Marek Laucky from Traverse City-St. Francis High School. Laucky will join the Saints for the 2017-18 season.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Laucky co-captained the Gladiators to a 16-6 overall record (13-2 in conference) during his senior season playing at the center/power forward positions. Laucky led the team in scoring over the past two seasons and added the rebound crown to his repertoire during his final year in the Lake Michigan Conference, where he earned First-Team honors.

An academic wiz kid, Marek was named an LMC All-Academic Scholar Athlete all four years in high school, participating in basketball and, during his junior and senior years, track and field. Laucky threw the shot put and discus for the Gladiators. His muscle will come in handy for the Saints next season.

Saints coach Ryan Bertoia told the media, “Marek comes from a great program and a great family. He will be an outstanding addition to the AQ community on and off the floor.”

“I feel incredibly blessed that Coach Bertoia took the time out of his very busy schedule to review my basketball credentials and offer me a position in the Aquinas basketball program,” said Laucky. “I have a firm grasp on my Catholic faith, and Aquinas supports my religious beliefs. Aquinas College has a rigorous educational curriculum which will continue to challege me and prepare me for my future endeavors. For these reasons, I chose Aquinas College.”

Laucky was named to the Traverse City Record Eagle All-Region Dream Team(4th Team), joining Cornerstone signee Gabe Meriweather, and was named team MVP for TC-St. Francis. Laucky also had the honor of being named the Q100.3 “Player of the Game” on more than one occasion.
