Tyler Bertuzzi is back in Beer City.
On Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings assigned the 21-year-old forward to the Grand Rapids Griffins. In his debut with the Wings last week, a 3-2 shootout victory at Philadelphia, Bertuzzi became the 157th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.
But back to the AHL he goes and just in time to join the party.
The Griffins are on a three-game winning streak and will host the Texas Stars on Wednesday and Friday at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins have won nine straight over Texas and 11 of the last 12 regular season meetings in the series.
The Griffins defensive play has been spectacular lately, going 24-for-24 while on the penalty kill over the last 17 consecutive periods.
The Griffins are the least penalized team in the league, Grand Rapids has committed only 49 minors and three majors for 113 total penalty minutes.
