Bulls ruin Brown's return, Drive lose third straight game

The Windy City Bulls scored 71 points in the first half on their way to a 125-117 victory over the visiting Grand Rapids Drive on Friday night at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL.

A huge second quarter (31-20), great ball movement (25 assists to 14 for GR) and superior ball handling (the Bulls only turned it over seven times to GR’s 17) helped the Bulls win their third straight game and send the Drive to their third consecutive loss.

In the return of guard Lorenzo Brown to the Drive’s lineup, both teams got off to a hot start in the opening quarter. Kevin Murphy buried three 3-pointers early on to give the Drive a 9-3 advantage, but the Bulls retaliated by scoring the next 12 and the lead changed hands nine times in the first 12 minutes. The score was tied 40-40 after the first quarter. In the second, the Drive score the first five points before the Bulls added six straight. Grand Rapids then felt the cold breeze as Windy City took a 13-point lead before ending the first half with a 71-60 lead.

In the third, it was more of the same for both teams. The Drive started off with a couple buckets but were held at bay by the home squad who extended the lead to 87-74. Windy City would grow the lead to 18 points just three minutes in to the fourth quarter, which helped them to the final margin.

Six players scored at least 13 points for the Bulls on their way to the win, led by Jarell Eddie‘s 19 points and 16 points and 13 assists from former Pistons guard Will Bynum. Wesley Saunders added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Crawford led the Drive with 31 points. Murphy and Brown helped with 20 points and 11 rebounds each. Surprisingly, Grand Rapids out rebounded the Bulls 63- 50, but shot a dismal 35% from the field to Windy City’s 43%.

Both teams are back in action tonight. The Drive head to North Carolina to face off against the Greensboro Swarm. The Bulls host the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
