After falling behind early, the West Michigan Whitecaps used a little solar power to get past the Dayton Dragons 7-3 on Monday at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, MI.
After Dayton took a 2-0 lead, the ‘Caps responded with two runs in the third inning. Then, with the sun high in the sky and blinding the eyes of the Dragons’ second baseman, West Michigan scored two more in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Adding two more in the sixth and another in the eighth, the home team found its way to easy victory.
Sandy Baez (2-5) recorded his second win of the season. The ‘Caps record improves to a season-best 28-19. This is their first six-game streak since July of 2014 and they finish May with a 17-7 record.
Jordan Smith gets the start for West Michigan on Tuesday in Midland against the Great Lakes Loons, beginning a seven-game road trip.
