Keeping a clean stat sheet is a difficult task to manage for any goaltender, let alone one playing in the AHL. Grand Rapids Griffins’ goaltender Jared Coreau has now done it 10 times, moving him into a franchise-tie for third place with Marc Lamothe.
Coreau’s latest perfect performance saw him save 30 shots and help the Griffins to a 3-0 win over the Rockford IceHogs Friday night at Van Andel Arena in Beer City, USA.
The Griffins, now 7-4-0-0, wrapped up their four-game home stand (3-1) as Louis-Marc Aubry tallied the game-winning goal on his 25th birthday and Kyle Criscuolo and Matt Lorito each celebrated with one of their own.
Aubry scored early in the second period to give the Griffins the 1-0 lead on his flailing backhanded shot scurried through the defense and crashed off the IceHogs goalie and defenseman for the gift.
Including tonight’s 3-for-3 effort, the Griffins’ penalty kill is 14 for its last 14 and has not allowed a power play goal since Oct. 29.
It will be a quick turnaround was the Griffins head to Milwaukee to face the Admirals on Saturday in Wisconsin at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
The Griffins donned special Red Kettle jerseys as tonight was the second annual Red Kettle Game presented by The Salvation Army.
Three Stars: 1. GR Coreau (30 saves, SO) 2. GR Aubry (game-winning goal) 3. GR Criscuolo (goal)
