Grand Rapids Danger making the move to NABL

The 2016-17 North Central Division champions are leaving the ABA.

The Grand Rapids Danger will begin play in the North American Basketball League (NABL) early in 2018. Coming off their omission from the ABA playoffs after winning the North Central division with an 12-5 season, owner Allen Durham and the team will leave the league for the greener pastures of the NABL. The move seems best for a team that has risen to the top of their division multiple times and felt slighted by a league that has come and gone like the waning tide.

Currently in the third week of their second season, the NABL regular season started play in early April and runs through the first week of July. Playoffs begin shortly afterward.

With a belief that the league is a better fit for the team and their mission, the Danger signals the NABL’s growth and expansion as a main reason for the move, which will benefit the players, staff and most importantly, the fans. Adding the Grand Rapids team is the first step toward a brand new Midwest Division of the league in 2018.

The NABL currently has four conferences:

West Coast: Kitsap County/Seattle, Quad City, SB Battle/Vancouver BCTacoma

West: Alamo City, Dallas-Fort Worth, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Miss-Lou, Houston

East: Capital City/Raleigh, Savannah, Panama City, Atlanta

East-North: Huntsville, Music City/Nashville, Southern Illinois, Birmingham
