Grand Rapids Danger will not play in 2017 ABA Playoffs

The Grand Rapids Danger, coming off a 12-5 season and a North Central Division title, will not be playing in the ABA Playoffs this season.

Although the Danger seemed destined to make a run in the upcoming ABA Playoffs, team management released this surprising statement on their Facebook page on Friday, March 10, 2017.

Attention Grand Rapids Danger fans,

Due to unfortunate circumstances, the Danger will not be playing in the 2016-17 ABA Playoffs. The organization is deeply saddened by this outcome but due to certain events, it’s best for the organization moving forward. We want to thank fans, sponsors and the city of Grand Rapids for their amazing support throughout the season. The Grand Rapids Danger organization will work tirelessly to keep its fans informed on what’s next for the 2016-17 North Central Division Champions. Thank you of your support, go Danger!

We’re sure that fans and sponsors were stunned about the news. But, maybe the most surprised of all were the people working with the organization, especially the radio broadcast team here at BeerCityHoops, who were not notified by team staff and found out late Friday night after seeing a shared Facebook post by player Derrick Brooks, aka “D-Bo”.

We’re saddened by the news of the playoff omission, but look forward to continuing our home broadcast of Danger games in the 2017-18 season.
