GRFC played two games over the Memorial Day weekend, winning on Friday 1-0 at home and losing on Monday 3-1 to Ann Arbor.
Friday night in Beer City, the boys in blue faced off against the Michigan Stars. Peter Brown took a shot and watched a defender misplay the rebound to score on his own goal, giving GRFC an early 4th minute lead.
Coach Goerge Moni,
“I couldn’t be any happier about the win, we executed our game plan and showed our tactical discipline, especially on the defensive end. It was a tougher second half as there were more numbers forward for Michigan Stars, but overall it was a great win.”
On Monday, the boys traveled to Ann Arbor, the top team in the Great Lakes West Conference. AAFC scored in the 13th minute and just before the halftime whistle for a 2-0 lead. They’d add another in the 80th minute before Greg Timmer scored for the visitors in the final three minutes of regular time.
Moni, on Monday’s loss,
“We created as many chances as they did, but they were just more concentrated in the final third, it was a lack of concentration and bit of fatigue on our part. We didn’t play to our usual level.”
