Martin Frk assigned to GR after Red Wings make waiver claim

On Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings claimed forward Martin Frk off waivers from the Carolina Hurricane (the former Hartford Whalers) and assigned him to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Frk was chosen by the Detroit Red Wings with their first pick, 49th overall in the second round, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After playing in 149 games with the Griffins from 2013 through the present, Frk has notched 36 goals and 32 assists for 69 total points. Last season (2015-16), Frk recorded career highs with 27 goals and 17 assists for 44 points and ranked among the AHL’s leaders in goals (tied-6th) and power play goals (11; tied-5th).

Frk became the 156th Griffins alum to play in the NHL, debuting with the Hurricanes on Oct. 18 in a 3-2 loss at Edmonton.
