Kevin Murphy scored 33 points for the second consecutive game and Ray McCallum nearly recorded a triple-double as the Grand Rapids Drive defeated the expansion Long Island Nets 112-98 Sunday afternoon at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
The Drive’s Zeke Upshaw opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers for Grand Rapids and the Nets’ Anthony Bennett hit his first six shots, scoring 12 of the first 14 points, for Long Island as the teams went back and forth throughout the opening quarter. Although tied at 28-28 to end the quarter, Grand Rapids held Long Island scoreless for the final 2:33, earning a five-point deficit over the span.
Jordan Crawford came off the bench for GR but only played two minutes due to an injured right hand. But the Nets fought back in the third quarter and stayed within striking distance throughout most of the second half.
McCallum finished with 27 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. Upshaw ended his night with 18 points.
