Patrick Roberts gave the visitors an early lead and Celtic extended their unbeaten domestic run to 13 games in a 4-0 victory over the Light Blues of Ross County Wednesday.
After Sunday’s 1-0 win over Rangers in the Betfred Cup semi-finals, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers made eight changes to the lineup. Roberts, on loan from Manchester City of the English premier League, was one of those eight to get the start. In the 3rd minute, he made defender Andrew Davies look silly, then beat keeper Scott Fox with a curled left-footed shot into the lower left corner unnerving the home crowd.
Emilio Izaguirre, Cristian Gamboa, Stuart Armstrong, Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, Liam Henderson and Leigh Griffiths all joined Roberts on the sheet. It would take Armstrong, who set up Roberts for the opening goal, to boot a shot into goal to clinch the points for the Bhoys in the 83rd minute.
Substitutes Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele would also add goals for Celtic late in the contest.
Sinclair found the ball at his feet off a Roberts blast and put the ball high in to the net during injury time (90’+1′).
Griffiths, meanwhile, has been on the mend from a hamstring injury and overshadowed by the emerging Dembele over the past month. Obviously, just to make this story, he tussled with Davies and showed his heart as a leader for the Parkhead crew even while on the road.
Dembele added his goal in the last moments of the match (90’+3′) with some help from Griffiths.
Celtic’s lead in Scottish Premiership League grew to seven points with the victory as they head off to visit Aberdeen on Saturday with the possibility of growing that lead to double digits. Ross County has now gone eight straight games without a win.
