Sandy Baez goes seven, fans two as ‘Caps shutout Hot Rods

Sandy Baez picked up his first victory of the season and the West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 6-0 Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

The ‘Caps scored three runs in the first inning and Baez (1-4) tossed four-plus hitless innings before the Hot Rods racked up a scratch. In the fifth, West Michigan took a 5-0 advantage.

West Michigan has now won three straight games and moved to 19-16, a season-best three games above the .500 mark.

Jordan Smith get the BCBS School Kids Day start for the Whitecaps tomorrow, beginning at 11am. He hopes to continue the Whitecaps phenomenal pitching trend, which has allowed one unearned run, 17 base hits and collected 24 strikeouts in their last 27 innings of work.
