Drive pick former MSU guard Shannon Brown in 2nd round

The Grand Rapids Drive have selected former Michigan State guard Shannon Brown with the 19th pick of the 2nd round.

After selecting former Austin Peay University big man Chris Horton with their 1st round pick in this year’s NBADL 2016 Draft, the Drive turned their attention to the backcourt/wing with the selection of the former Spartan guard.

Brown was Illinois’ Mr. Basketball in 2003 before moving on to play for the Spartans and coach Tom Izzo in East Lansing. In 2006, Brown was drafted with the 25th pick overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers and spent the majority of three seasons with the team. He also spent time in the D-League, with stints at Albuquerque (1 game) and Rio Grande Valley (4 games).

Brown has also spent time in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Bobcats, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks and, most recently in 2014, with the Miami Heat.

Brown is married to R&B singer Monica.
