The South Bend Cubs decided to keep their home winning streak going against a suddenly not-so-hot West Michigan Whitecaps on Sunday with a 2-1 win at Four Winds Field.
The Cubs take over first place in the Eastern Division of the Midwest League. David Gonzalez‘ error at second base and a balk by pitcher Sandy Baez allowed the Cubs to score in the first two innings.
Gonzalez would single home a run in the fifth, but the Cubs bullpen shut down the ‘Caps after that.
Baez (2-6) takes the loss and can’t seem to catch a break on the mound or from the West Michigan(32-22) bats during his starts.
Great Lakes visits Fifth Third Ballpark Tuesday for a matinée game. Matt Hall (6-0) starts for the Whitecaps on the mound.
