The West Michigan Whitecaps jumped out to an early lead on Flag Day and watched the bullpen dominate in a 7-4 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Tuesday night at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, IN.
Jose Azocar and Leo Laffita knocked in runs and Brett Pirtle scored on a balk in the first inning. Azocar singled home another run in the third and Derek Hill followed suit in the fourth inning. Cam Gibson would score in the eighth on a wild pitch to make the score 7-4.
Trent Szkutnik (3-0) pitched six innings and gave up the four TinCaps run, but picked up the victory. Drew Smith struck out five batters out of the bullpen. All-Star Gerson Moreno tossed the ninth for his 11th save.
The Whitecaps improve to 37-25.
