Whitecaps, Zeile power past Dragons

Shane Zeile‘s first inning two-run triple was enough offense for the West Michigan Whitecaps to take the rest of the game off, but they’d score one more in a 3-1 win over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

5,453 fans were announced in attendance as Zeile plated the Will’s, Maddox and Allen, respectively, in the first inning to give the ‘Caps a 2-0 advantage early.

In the field, Beau Burrows, now 3-3 on the year, kept Dayton from scoring through 5.1 innings before Josh Laxer shut the door on Dayton  for 2.2 innings. Gerson Moreno finished the game for his seventh save of the season, but gave up the only Dragons run.

The Whitecaps have now won a season-high four games in a row and stand at 26-19 heading into Monday’s Memorial Day matinée game at 1 p.m, which concludes the four-game set with Dayton and sees West Michigan’s Kyle Dowdy on the hill.
