Shane Zeile did it again, homering for the second straight game, this time breaking a seventh-inning tie and pushing the West Michigan Whitecaps to a 6-4 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods Thursday in the first game of what was to be a doubleheader.
The second game of the abbreviated two-game night was cancelled due to more flash flooding in the Bowling Green area, the cause of the original postponement.
Matt Hall‘s season-best scoreless innings streak ended at 17.1 innings, but he only allowed one run in five innings while striking out seven. Gerson Moreno (1-1) earned his first victory of the season in relief.
West Michigan is now five games above .500 at 24-19.
They’ll return home this Memorial Day Weekend for a four-game series with the Dayton Dragons. Trent Szkutnik starts for West Michigan on Friday.
